The Ten Commandments - The Lord's Prayer
23rd Psalm - The Golden Rule! - Sermon on the Mount

John 3:16

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."

--- KJV

"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him."

The Golden Rule

"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."

-- Matthew 7:12

Note: This is commonly known as the Golden Rule. In many religious it is stated negatively: "Don't do to others what you don't want done to you." By stating it positively, Jesus made it more significant. it is not very hard to refrain from harming others; it is much more difficult to take the initiative in doing something good for them. The Golden Rule as Jesus formulated it is the foundation of active goodness and mercy -- the kind of love God shows to us every day. Think of a good and merciful action you can take today.

-- Life Application Bible - NIV

Note: "Here is a simple rule of thumb for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you; then grab the initiative and do it for them! If you only love the lovable, do you expect a pat on the back? Run-of-the-mill sinners do that. if you only help those who help you, do you expect a medal? Garden-variety sinners do that. If you only give for what you hope to get out of it, do you think that's charity? The stingiest of pawnbrokers does that."
